Sunset watercolour
-
This sunset in watercolour has been kept simple. I firmly believe that when painting a sunset, the artist should ‘play it down a little – or else’! Again, a limited palette and a limited brush selection was used when creating the painting.

The two colours used for this sunset are cadmium red and French ultramarine. The two brushes used for this watercolour painting are the hake brush and the rigger brush.

Although this Ullswater sunset, which is principally in orange, may not look like it, it was in fact achieved using all three primary colours; yellow, red and blue. The sun ball was lifted out whilst the sky was still wet, by using a small coin with a tissue wrapped around it.
